James (Jim) Earl Hopkins, age 83, of Annapolis, MD, died at his home in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 24, 2016 from CHF. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Joyce Hopkins; children, Anne Mitchell (husband Larry), Elizabeth (Betsy) Monaghan (husband Pat), and James (Mike) Hopkins; grandchildren, Lauren Gonzalez (husband David), Heath and Clair Mitchell, and Fallon Monaghan; siblings, Robert (Bobby) Hopkins and Shirley Hopkins Smith (husband Noel); and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Joyce Hopkins; children, Anne Mitchell (husband Larry), Elizabeth (Betsy) Monaghan (husband Pat), and James (Mike) Hopkins; grandchildren, Lauren Gonzalez (husband David), Heath and Clair Mitchell, and Fallon Monaghan; siblings, Robert (Bobby) Hopkins and Shirley Hopkins Smith (husband Noel); and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, J. Lloyd and Blanche Wayson Hopkins, and siblings, John (Jack) Hopkins, Richard (Dick) Hopkins, and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hopkins Moore.



A lifelong Annapolitan, Jim was born in Annapolis on April 30, 1933 and attended school at Germantown Elementary and Annapolis High School (class of 1953). He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, serving stateside and then attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, applying his degree as a career art director for advertising agencies in Baltimore, and then later forming his own business in Annapolis. Jim amassed wonderful friendships wherever he worked or attended school and leaves behind a multitude of cherished friends who lovingly called him “Hop”. Jim was happiest when spending time with his family and friends or working in his beloved garden.



A visitation will be held on Thursday,Dec. 1, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, MD 21401. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.A private interment will held at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
